This page contains links to physics documents written by members of the Michigan CDF group, upgrade documents, talks, and notes on tools and software that we have written.
Each entry has a title, a summary, a list of authors, a date of publication or when it was last updated, a distribution designation, and links to the material in various formats. Each entry also has its bookmark noted, to help authors making links to it from other web pages.
The documents here are in many cases copies of the original. To verify that the document on this web is the most recent you may want to send mail to the author.

A Monte Carlo Study of Top Polarization in Semileptonic Top Decay, CDF4263.
Describes a simple method to analyze the smearing effect the MINUIT mass fitter has on the measurement of top quark polarization. Demonstrates 50 to 60% loss in sensitivity due to the smearing.

Sources of Degradation in the Measurement of Top Quark Polarization, CDF4305.
Examines what factors are most responsible for smearing the top quark polarization measurement. Result: the mismatching of the b quark from the leptonically decaying top quark is the biggest source of smearing.

Degradation of Top Quark Polarization in Various Subsamples of ttbar Events, CDF4306.
Examines the smearing introduced by the mass fitter to the following subsamples of ttbar events: (1) No chi2 cut vs. chi2 < 10; (2) # b tagged jet = 0, 1, and 2; (3) primary lepton = electron vs. muon; (4) b tagged jet has no SLT tag vs. >= 1 SLT tag. Result: No significant differences in smearing in cases (1), (3), and (4). In case (2), we find that smearing decreases with the number of tagged jets.

The Effect of Top Mass-constraint on the Measurement of Top Quark Polarization, CDFXXXX.
Mass constraining a ttbar mass fit is known to improve the matching of partons to correct jets. We examine how much of this improvement translates to improvements in the measurement of the top quark polarization. Result: Observe improvements polarization measurement consistent with the improvement in b quark matching, but at a cost of loss of events due to chi2 cut.

Electronic Shop Design File Structures
Electronics shop designs are often in use for many years, and are used by people other than the original designer. For the poor person asked to come up with schematics, artworks, etc. from only a board name, a structured design area can save a lot of time and effort. For this reason, there is a required area and structure for board, chip, and FPGA designs done in the electronics shop.
